11/27/2022

Drop Acid: The Surprising New Science of Uric Acid―The Key to Losing Weight, Controlling Blood Sugar, and Achieving Extraordinary Health (2022) by David Perlmutter( (drperlmutter.com) talks about uric acid, an acid created in our body that can shorten our life and cause health problems including gout, metabolic syndrome and obesity, diabetes, dementia, ADHD, and cardiovascular disease. The book explains where uric said comes from and proposes a LUV diet – that's L-U-V for Lower Uric Values - that aim at dropping the uric acid level to improve health.
  • Fructose and purines are two primary sources of uric acid. Fructose comes from corn syrup in sugary sodas. Purines can come from red meats like beef, lamb, and pork and oily fish such as sardines and anchovies. Berries, beans, and spinach also have high purines levels.
  • Getting good sleep, staying hydrated, exercising, and eating whole foods like tart cherries, broccoli, and sprouts, can reduce uric acid.
