Book Summary I Super Thinking by Gabriel Weinberg Lauren McCann (2019)

No matter, we are aware of it or not. We are using mental models to make decisions in many occasions.  In this book, the authors talk about more than one hundred useful mental models (or thinking frameworks)that help us make decisions.The book has more than one hundred metal models discussed. The authors claimed that these models are shortcuts to a higher level of thinking needed by our day-to-day decision-making, problem-solving, and truth-seeking. We use different colors in the book summary mind map to differentiate concepts to understand the situation from the approaches to solve the problem. 

• Avoid unforced errors: We have to understand what can cause unforced mistakes, stay objective, and use systematic analysis to approach the problems.
• Making decisions: they are many things that can mislead our decision-making process. Many of them are from unknowns or items beyond our cognitive limits. Therefore, proper decision-making thinking has to perform a systematic review and use sensitivity analysis to evaluate different factors and simulate the situation to make the best choice. 
• ​Entrepreneurship: Starting a new company requires understanding what makes a company successful, such as finding secrets and building sustainable competitive advantages. The real action includes customer development, product-market fit, and trying to cross a chasm in the product adoption cycle.
• Leadership: A good leader empower others. To do so, we must understand the imposter syndrome and Dunning Kruger's effects that make people perform under their capacity. We also need to be aware of the Peter principle, where people tend to work at the level that they are not competent. Leaders need to encourage deliberate practices , be radical candor with their team members, define group culture, and win the hearts and minds of each person.
• Statistics: We now rely more on data to make decisions. Statistics play a vital role in this process. However, the statistical analysis has many fallacies and biases; therefore, we must use meta-data studies, systematic reviews, A/B tests, or randomized experiments to avoid errors.
• Better use of time: Biases and our tendency to avoid loss prevents us from better use of time. Therefore, we need to know our Northstar, avoid multitasking, increase leverage, and use 80/20 rules to improve efficiency. 
• Natural selection: Nature has its own route to select the winners. Therefore it's essential to understand how to deal with this selection, such as using a flywheel to store energy, dealing with inertia, and avoiding thinking black and white. We can reframe our problem and find potential power to solve the situation with win-win solutions.
• Handling conflicts: In a social environment, we constantly face conflicts. We must understand where the conflicts come from first and then can use distribution justice, procedural justice, and social norms to reduce conflicts. We must also appeal to emotion, fight the last war and plan our best exit strategy.

Essentially, the current human understanding of the nature is build on top of the mental models that have been collected over the history. It is  worthwhile for us to explore some of the useful models in deep dive to really understand human and ourselves.
