Life 3.0 (2017) | Book Summary

Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence by Max Tegmark (https://futureoflife.org) discusses the future of AI (artificial intelligence). Tegmark defines life to be "a self-replicating information-processing system whose information (software) determines both its behavior and the blueprints for its hardware.". He categorizes life into three versions: 

• Life 1.0 includes all the lives other than humans, "where both the hardware and software are evolved rather than designed. "
• Life 2.0 refers to humans "whose hardware is evolved, but whose software is largely designed."  
• Life 3.0: refers to the future life form "which can design not only its software but also its hardware." Tegmark refers to the Superintelligence who have storage, processing, and learning skills as good as human's or even better than human's intelligence. Tegmark talks about the neural-network-based deep learning methods which could enable life 3.0. 

The real question is when life 3.0 will arrive and what the world will be like then. ​
