(2014)5/27/2018 ![]() Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration by Ed Catmull, Amy Wallace discusses how to encourage and protect creativity in a cooperate environment. The following are some of viewpoints from Catmull: People first. “If you give a good idea to a mediocre team, they will screw it up. If you give a mediocre idea to a brilliant team, they will either fix it or throw it away and come up with something better.” Within a good team, people need to be honest and candor. Daring to fail and try. “Failure isn’t a necessary evil. In fact, it isn’t evil at all. It is a necessary consequence of doing something new.” Ed tells us to avoid the fear of failures. He also mentioned that leaders should work on reducing the risks when things fail. Dealing with the unknowns. "..to be truly humble, those leaders must first understand how many of the factors that shape their lives and businesses are and will always be - out of sight." There are so many things we don't know. Therefore, Catmull suggests us to be flexible, stay humble and work on discovering the unknowns. We have to admit Disney has a great outcome with Ed Catmull's leadershp. His suggestions worth considering. “When faced with a challenge, get smarter.” - Ed Catmull, Creativity Inc.
