Book | Ego is Enemy by Ryan Holiday (2016)

9/24/2022

“Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive.”  - Ryan Holiday
PictureGoodread Choice at Amazon
Ego is Enemy by Ryan Holiday (ryanholiday.net ) discusses the "treacherous nature of ego," which beliefs in our own importance and pursuing social identity.

The book gives a good insight into ego as an obstacle to our true success. It's correlated to pride in the seven sins in Christianity.

The discussion is expanded on ego management during aspiration, success, and failure.
  • We are ambitious during our aspirations, but the intent should not be building personal reputation (our ego) but something worthwhile to do. This lets us focus on getting things done rather than hearing what others say about us.
  • When we gain small success, silencing our ego helps us know there are always someone better and something more significant.
  • When facing failures, we can keep learning and improving to be better.
