Book Summary | One Small Step Can Change Your Life (2014)

11/12/2022

What is it about? One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Robert Maurer, Ph.D., talks about how we can change our life by taking small steps.

Why bother? The book is rated 4.5 in 1958 reviews, making it popular in the self-improvement category. The concept has been introduced previously. We have read the same idea from James Clear's Atomic Habits. However, since change is difficult to make, the book brings unique perspectives worth reading.

Key Ideas The following are the key ideas from the book:
  • When we arrive in the world as a baby, we have nothing. We have to change to become the person we want to be.
  • However, We naturally resist changes in our lives.
  • Therefore, making small changes is easier when we can start by asking small questions, working on something small, being mindful of little moments, appreciating little things, paying attention to the small problem, and giving small rewards to keep moving forward. The author describes this as the Kaizen approach, which relies on continuous improvements to achieve our goals.
