The New One-Page Project Manager by Clark Campbell and Mick Campbell reduces the project plan to a one-page document, a structured report that can track and report the project performance.

 Report creation takes 12 steps (summarized in ​Step 3 - the content matrix) :

• ​Project Basics (Step 1): Project Name, Project Manager, Project Objectives, Report Date
• Objectives (Steps 4): Project objectives 
• Tasks Management (Step 5, 6, 8, 9): tasks name, objectives associated, the schedule of the task, owner/helper to complete the task. 
• Risk Management (Step 10, 8, 9): risk name, the schedule, RAG status  and owner/helper to mitigate the risk. 
• Team Management (Step 2): Owner and helper of the project's tasks (Note: The author suggested using A, B, C to specify the ownership order and recommend that one owner per task is preferred.) 
• Cost Control (Step 11): showing metric for cost measurement 
• Project Date (Step 7): cadence of the report
• Summary and Forecast (Step 12): overview and forecast for an executive to capture the key message.

The steps covers the essential project management principles. The book also emphasizes that keeping project plan/status transparent to the team and stakeholders is always project managers' top priority. 

Editor's Notes (11/9/2021): Now, we can use many advanced tools for project management. Using the spreadsheet-based approach seems outdated, but the concept and critical elements of an project report/tracking remain the same. ​
