What is it about?
Michael Hyatt's book "Your Best Year Ever: A 5-Step Plan for Achieving Your Most Important Goals" addresses a common problem that many people face - #resolutionfail. This term refers to the fact that 6 to 10 Americans set new year resolutions, but only 9% of them actually achieve their goals (source).

Why bother?
If you struggle with keeping up with your New Year's resolutions, then this book is a must-read.

Key Ideas
The author, Hyatt, provides five assumptions which aim to solve the problem and lead to life satisfaction:
  • Real-life is multifaced. The author lists 10 facets: spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, marital, social, parental, vocational, aviation, and financial.
  • Every domain matters.
  • Progress starts only when you get clear on where you are right now.
  • You can improve any aspect of your life.
  • Confidence, happiness, and life satisfaction are byproducts of personal growth.
The book suggests five steps to achieve your goals - (1) overcoming self-doubt, (2) resolving past issues, (3) setting clear goals, (4) understanding your motivations, and (5) taking action. Setting achievable goals is crucial for success. One effective framework to use is the SMARTER goal-setting method, which involves creating goals that are Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Risky, Time-bound, Exciting, and Relevant. Keeping track of your progress using a habit goal tracking sheet can be helpful. It's also vital to review your progress every quarter, especially two months before the end of the year, to ensure that you have enough time to catch up and make any necessary adjustments.
