A Glass of Wine

7/18/2022

Whether we're wine lovers, we can't get away from it by showing up at your social events. We will always have friends who will love it. We also consistently get the wine menu at the restaurant. Hey, how much Wine is on the shelves of the shopping market? Let me tell you my story about enjoying a simple glass of Wine.

Wine is complicated but let's make it simple. The extended choices of wine brands, types, and tastes can be overwhelming or imitating. However, I usually make it simple by applying three basic rules:
  • Wine can be differentiated by color. Red Wine is made with grape skin, so it shows in dark red color. Pinot Noir is a lightly colored, medium-bodied, and low-tannin red Wine. White Wine is made with grape skin removed. So it shows light white color. The ice wine is a unique white wine that is sweet for dessert. Rose Wine offers rosy color because it incorporates some of the colors from the grape skins but not enough to qualify it as red Wine.
  • Wine can be distinguished from non-sparkling and sparkling. The sparkling Wine from the Champagne region in the Northeast of France is called Champagne. Sparkingly wine from other places is called Sparking Wine (like Prosecco)
  • Wine is ridiculously friendly with food of the same color. Red Wine works well with red meat like beef and lamb, and white Wine is better when paired with white meat like fish and chicken.
What you heard about Wine can be misleading. There are different thoughts. Some say it benefits health, while others say it is not. I would not pay too much attention to opinions but check facts and follow my sensations.
  • Fact #1: Wine is a high-calorie drink. A glass of red Wine (148ml) provides around 120 calories, and sweet wines can go up to 164 calories. Remember, the calorie in a can of coke (330ml) is 140.
  • Fact #2: Wine is a low-sugar drink. A glass of red Wwinetypically contains about 0.9 grams of sugar; chardonnay contains about 1.4 grams. A sweet dessert wine in (70ml) has as much as 7 grams of sugar. Remember, a can of coke (330ml) calorie is 39g.
Wine can be our friend or enemy. Learn it and then make decisions.
