I recently realized my learning fatigue. When consumption of information, I stayed at the surface level skimming the words. No matter how many books I read, the understanding and enlightenment stopped. Every read simply reinforces existing beliefs (confirmation bias), seeking approval of my thoughts. I paused and spent some time in nature and with friends. I realized that I can only eat so much food before I am full.
If we look back at our experience, our enlightenment mostly comes from few moments when our mind is intrigued. "I didn't know!" "I now know what it is." We often realize the same suggestion has been given many times, but we have just been ignorant and blind because we don't understand (talking to the deaf ear.). Information has not become our wisdom when we know but need help understanding.
The tricky part is when this moment will happen. All the learning fertilizing the Soil and planting the seeds, someday, the plant will grow and flourish.
The point we want to make today is when we collect information, we need to spend time contemplating and reflecting to develop wisdom. With so much information easily accessible, cultivating critical thinking has become even more important. Slow down. Cultivate critical thinking that encourages analytical thinking and skepticism about the data consumed. Question sources, understand biases, and evaluate evidence. We would rather have deep learning.
In conclusion, we need to transform the vast ocean of data into meaningful, wise insights. Transform skimming through information into a journey of contemplation for wisdom, well-being, and enlightenment. We talked earlier about how effort doesn't necessarily lead to progress. We add two more sentence: Quantity doesn't equal quality. Information doesn't mean wisdom.
