Story | Dark Moth and Light Moth

8/20/2023

"It is notorious the most intellectual of the species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself." -,Leon Megginson
I read this interesting story about natural selection from the book Super Thinking:

” BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, most peppered moths in Manchester, England, were light-colored, using trees covered with pale bark and lichens as camouflage to avoid becoming prey for birds. The first reporting of a live dark moth was in 1811, but definitive proof of this variation didn't appear until the first was captured in 1848. A dark moth was extremely rare, estimated to represent only o.01 percent of the peppered moth population around that time. But by 1895, the frequency of dark-colored peppered moths in Manchester had risen from 0.01 percent to 98 percent!

What happened? During this period, pollution from the new coal factories left the trees covered with soot and killed the pale lichens, resulting in darker trees. The light-colored moths' color became a liability rather than an asset. The dark-color genes, however, immediately became incredibly useful, as any moths that expressed them were now camouflaged against the dark trees. Birds picked off the light-colored moths in droves, leaving dark-colored moths to propagate and take over the gene pool. England's Clean Air Act of 1956 cleaned up the pollution, making the trees light again, reversing the trend, and ultimately making the dark-colored moths rare once more. This rise and fall of the dark-colored peppered moth is a showcase of natural selection, the process that drives biological evolution.”

Why do we need a tea time?

8/20/2023

"We need tea time to slow down, relax, and find inner peace. It's an opportunity to prioritize our health and expand our perspective through reading or chatting with friends. During team time, we can reflect on our purpose and plan our next steps. " - Sukee Parker

Philosophy | Money is Spiritual

8/20/2023

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”(Timothy 6:17-18)
There is a common belief that "Money is spiritual." Let's talk about this belief, so we can have a pleasant conversation with others on this topic. There are pieces of evidence that money is spiritual.
  • Money spending is emotional. You buy something not just functional but also because you like it, value it, and feel happy with the possession.
  • Money-making is about offering delightful services. The money is the evidence of the result and value of your service.
  • Wealth building is about living within your means and sharing with others after filling your own cup.
Listen to this interview Why Are So Many Jews Rich? (with Rabbi Daniel Lapin, the author of Thou Shall Prosper), which is deeply insightful.

Passion Fruit Tea

8/16/2023

A wonderful aroma immediately filled the entire room when a friend from Argentina shared her passion fruit tea during our tea sharing session. That moment made me curious to explore this topic, as passion fruit is native to South America, with its origins in Paraguay, southern Brazil, and northern Argentina. I started using it to enhance my tea with its unique sweet and tangy flavors, and its fragrant aroma adds a refreshing twist to the classic tea experience.

Here's a simple recipe for a single serving of passion fruit iced tea:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 passion fruit tea bag
- 1 tablespoon fresh passion fruit juice or canned passion fruit pulp
- Ice cubes

Instructions:
1. Boil 1 cup of water in a small saucepan or kettle.
2. Remove from heat and add 1 passion fruit tea bag to the water. Allow it to steep for 5 minutes.
3. Remove the tea bag and discard it.
4. Add 1 tablespoon of fresh passion fruit juice or canned passion fruit pulp to the tea.
5. Stir well to combine.
6. Let the tea cool for a few minutes.
7. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
8. Pour the passion fruit tea over the ice cubes.
9. Stir gently to chill the tea.
10. Enjoy your delightful single-serving passion fruit iced tea!

Feel free to adjust the sweetness or add a slice of fresh fruit for garnish, if desired. Passion fruit tea is also rich in vitamin C and possesses a wide range of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, reducing the risk of chronic inflammation and health ailments related to the heart.
