Sukee’s Pick | Principles for Organizing Life

11/28/2022

Organizing can make us happy because we feel in control when organizing our things. This sense of control makes us feel good. By organizing, we can also improve productivity and surround ourselves with people and things that spark joy. In this blog, I'll discuss principles learned about staying organized, including how to make plans, create habits, reduce distractions, and minimize possessions.

Make a plan. "If you don't plan your time, someone else will." I found this is indeed correct. When we were young, our parents planned for our life. Going to school, taking after-school programs, reading through a reading list... when we don't have strong opinions, others' ideas will dominate. Therefore, the first thing to organize our life is to take control back into our own hands. Making a plan and setting priorities allows us to decide what to do and how we spend time.

Develop habits. We are inherently lazy to save energy. 90% of our daily decision are made by habits or decided with our subconsciousness. As a result, when we like to do something, we can make it a habit to save a spot in our life.

Reduce distractions. The problem with distractions is they take time away from what we really like to do or delay our actions which are procrastinations that bother many. To be organized, we will direct our focus on our plan so we can live on purpose and with consciousness.

Minimize Material Possessions. This is decluttering. The world is made up of energy. Every object is part of it. We would appreciate every object's company in our life and understand how its energy impacts our life. Too many objects can be a burden, and that's why we become minimalist to keep only what we need to preserve our energy and save them for others.

By learning these principles, we can then apply them to every aspect of our life home, work, relationships, and everything in between.

Acceptance

11/27/2022

"Accept the transiently of life, and we all will die and lose our trace eventually.
Accept our selfishness and project the "me time."
Accept mistakes. Accept the consequence of our decisions." - Sukee Parker
Life can be chaotic, and we are not perfect. The best way to deal with these can start with acceptance because little we can do to change it in the first place.

Life is chaotic. We constantly receive curve balls, hardballs from anywhere or from nowhere. Our job has setbacks. Our children may not grow up as we expected. We may wish for better living conditions or to travel to more places, but financial restrictions hold us back. Life can never be ideal. It's inherently flawed.

We are not perfect. We can't choose our family, pick where we grow up, or the people we meet. We can't change appearance or intelligence level, and the annoying temper comes from our birth. We can feel sad, disappointed, arrogant, greedy... all these feelings make up our unique personalities. Well, it is not perfect. Absolutely not. We must accept this fundamental truth.

We have little things to do but not nothing to do. To take action, we must first face reality. Even when life is messy, we can still find happiness and accomplish valuable things. For example, I struggle with writing in English because it is not my native language, and my grammar is far from perfect. However, I hope that reading this article has given you some thoughts valuable. Despite my imperfections, I am happy to have made an effort to convey my perspectives. Bear with my imperfection.

Acceptance is the first step in managing disappointment. We must embrace life's challenges as a part of the journey. Accepting who we are is because perfection is simply an illusion. Being grateful for what we have can bring calm to our minds.

What are your imperfections? Would you accept them or complain about them? What brings you happiness in life? Then be gracious and simpliy to our best.

Natural Laws from Tangle

“You must simply show people whatever you care to show them, but without ever telling exactly how you've done it.” - Yaqui Way of Knowledge
My friend recommended Tangle (2009) on Amazon Prime. It's a dark comedy TV series from Australia in its fourth season. What my friend said interested me: "This is a comedy, showing all aspects of human nature and natural laws." What are the natural laws? Let's start to find out the expression from the show.

1. God doesn't play dice with the universe. Einstein said that. When something happens, it is because of circumstances that already exist. Every action is the consequence of another action. (1)
2. We are all related. That's the theory of entanglement. If something affects the quantum state of one particle, it will inevitably affect the quantum state of the other, even from the other side of the world. The way I see it, no matter how far apart we are, we can still affect each other. They are weird when people come back. We are who they are. (2)
3. Triangle: All of them are connected, but only two of them can connect at one time. Those three lines never touch at a single point. (3)
4. Unintended consequences are outcomes that are not what you intend in a particular situation. The law is each cause has more than one effect, and these effects will invariably include at least one unforeseen side effect. What is weird is the side effect is potentially more significant than any of the intended ones. (5)

Study with Me

11/23/2022

When we don't know what to do, we can start learning something. An ancient Chinese master said: "I have tried not to eat all day long nor to sleep all night to think. It is useless. It is better to learn." (子曰: "吾尝终日不食、终夜不寝以思,无益,不如学也。")

After we decide to spend time learning, we then have two more decisions to make: what to learn and how to learn it. What to know is specific to our personality and our current interests. I recommend learning something that makes us happy, knowledgeable, or valuable to improve our lives. How to learn means staying focused to get the most from the study.
