Starbucks was not created by Howard Schulze but by three other founders Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegl, in 1971 near the historic Pike Place Market. Howard Schulze was hired by Starbucks as the head of marketing in 1982 when Starbucks already had four stores in Seattle known for top-quality fresh-roasted coffees. Later he bought Starbuck in 1987.
