Charts represent information with visual symbols (line and bars), encodings (color, length, and position), and annotations (labels and notes). As Mr. Carlo explains in his book How Charts Lie, deciphering charts is not intuitive, "A picture is worth a thousand words... (only) if you know how to read it.
